2009 Upcoming Events in the 11 BC Garden

We are excited to be organizing another great season of music, video, art, and poetry events! This season began early with a lively salsa performance by Conjunto Tambo on Memorial Day weekend during the Loisaida Day festival. Please check this site often for updates.


May

Sunday, May 24, 2:00pm-4:00pm: Conjunto Tambo salsa band.


June

Sunday, June 21, 1:00pm-5:00pm: How Green Are You? garden event. Share with neighbors what you are doing to help improve our environment and learn about composting and other ways to be green. Activities will include a recycle game, chalk murals, seed planting and more. Free samples of environmentally-friendly products for the home will be available. In cooperation with the Council on the Environment of NYC. Check out the results and pictures.


July

POSTPONED: Saturday, July 18, 6:00pm-8:00pm: Pianist, singer and actor Todd Almond performs music from his Mexico City album and other tunes. Todd performs regularly in NYC at venues such as at The Zipper Factory, Ars Nova, and Joe's Pub. As a composer for theater, he recently wrote SONG OF THE FALLING MAN with Adam Bock for the 24 Hour Musicals which starred Victoria Clark and Cheyenne Jackson. Among his other credits, he also co-wrote and created the show GIRLFRIEND, which featured the music of Matthew Sweet. Sunday, July 19, 2:00pm-4:00pm: Music for Kids with Polly Hall and Andrew Barkan. Polly is a writer/partner at Antfood Music & Sound Design and Andrew is a composer and music teacher.

Saturday, August 8, 1:30pm-9:00pm: GO LES! Summer Festival featuring a musical performance of latin jazz and salsa by Ray Santiago, poetry, video and a photo exhibition highlighting the rich history of the L.E.S. Good Old Lower East Side members will present information on their tenants' rights programs. With support from the Citizens Committee of NYC.

Saturday, September 5, 2:00-4:00pm: 2009 HOWL! Festival Poetry Reading curated by Tom Savage with Steve Dalachinsky, Merry Fortune, Ilsa Gilbert, Kate Irving, Lissa Moira, Elizabeth Morse, Yuko Otomo, Ron Price, Tom Savage, Susan Scutti, and Richard West.

Saturday, September 12, 3:30-5:30pm: Steve Wirts, tenor saxophone, Richie Vitale, trumpet, Jon Davis, piano, Yoshi Waki, bass and Steve Johns, drums.

Saturday, September 19, 3:00-5:00pm: Debra Manzella, flute, Jerome Harris, bass and Alexander El, drums.
